Romeo and Juliet Project
This year we studied Romeo and Juliet. We read each scene carefully, analyzing it as we went along. For our final product we created timelines of each act, diary entries as a character in the play, and one final piece of our choosing. For exhibition we had to choose a scene in the play to interpret. For my final product I chose to make a book cover for the balcony scene which is act 2 scene 2. This scene really stuck out to me in the play, in particular, Juliet’s quote. “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name; Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love And I'll no longer be a Capulet.” Juliet is so in love with Romeo, and so she asks herself why he has to be a Montague. All she wants is to be with Romeo but this makes it impossible for them to be together. I knew that I wanted to include that quote into my final piece. So, on the book cover I included that quote in the shape of a dripping heart and the title of the play. To me it meant that they were so in love, but in the end everyone knew it wouldn’t work out. The heart could not stay together as one and that is why I chose to have the heart dripping or “bleeding". I really enjoyed this project, I learned a lot from all of the activities and worksheets that we did.
