The "Me" in We Project
The question that guided us through the project was How does your culture contribute to who you are as an individual and how does each individual shape the High Tech High International community? This question helped us to create our poems, collages, and our final San Diego Mural. Over the course of this project we read The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. We then wrote an analytical essay about The House on Mango Street. The final exhibition piece for this project is a mural of the San Diego skyline. We were split into 12 groups and were each given a community in San Diego and a significant building in the San Diego skyline. As a group of four we researched our neighborhood and found images that represented the heart and soul of that community. I really enjoyed this project and feel like I learned a lot. The skills I learned while writing the essay will not only help me this year but for many years to come. My group got Barrio Logan and East Village, I think that our final piece turned out beautifully. It represents both communities and the people that live there. The final mural shows how each neighborhood is different but that they still are connected.
